Designated a Marine Life Conservation District, Honolua Bay features great snorkeling along the rocks on both sides. Entry from the road involves occasionally difficult parking, a brief walk down through a grove of amazingly tall trees, and gingerly entering the water from an old concrete boat ramp flanked by smooth rocks. There are no facilities here or at neighboring "Slaughter House" beach. You also can visit by boat from Lahaina, and for many, the convenience will justify the additional cost. Note: do not snorkel here during Winter months when the wave action draws surfers, or after storms when dirt clouds the water. Instead, you can head South to Kapalua Bay or Napili Bay for a real beach scene with a modest assortment of sea life.
